What is Supported Independent Living (SIL) in the NDIS?

Supported independent living is a type of support included in the Core support budget under NDIS Plan. This support lets you live as independently as possible while building their skills. It includes assistance or supervision with daily tasks, assistance with personal activities. The main aim of this service is to give more choice and control to NDIS participants. 

SIL is for people with higher support needs, who need some level of help at home all the time. Different people will Different types of home and living supports will suit different people.

SIL package covers support in terms of three different categories: lower needs, standard needs and higher needs as per NDIS plan. It includes:

  • personal care needs (i.e., dressing, showering, toileting) so you can live as independently as possible.
  • participating in activities in the household.
  • managing daily tasks like preparing meals
